Finding a future for Clapham South

Thanks to the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are exploring how we can give Clapham South deep-level shelter a sustainable future. Our long-term aim is to transform the site into a multi-purpose venue combining a nationally significant Museum of Shelter with a range of commercial visitor attractions. Support from the  National Lottery Heritage Fund is enabling us to develop:

  • A detailed understanding of the site, including a full 3D scan which will allow a team of experts to accurately cost the work needed to transform an abandoned set of tunnels into an accessible multi-use venue.
  • A business plan prepared by external experts which will assess the potential audiences, income generating potential, costs and risks of the site.

A third strand of work, supported by London Transport Museum, will draw out the stories of national significance within Clapham South’s tunnels through consultation and explore its value to the local community.

We look forward to sharing with you the exciting stories and possibilities which come out of this project due to complete in October 2019.
